    National Farm Building Code Update

An update to the National Farm Building Code of Canada (NFBCC) is on the horizon! The Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC), with advice from the Provincial / Territorial Policy Advisory Committee on Codes (PTPACC), has agreed to work on updating the requirements for large farm buildings with a view to incorporating these updates into the 2015 National Building Code and National Fire Codes. The new requirements will be objective-based to match the format of the model building codes.

Recently announced, the CCBFB/PTPACC Joint Task Force on Farm Buildings has been cast to examine the update to the 1995 NFBCC.  The Joint Task Group will outline the work necessary to update the technical requirements in the National Farm Building Code (last published in 1995). This will include specifying the approach for drafting technical requirements. Another key element is to determine how to incorporate large farm building requirements into the National Building Code of Canada (NBC) and to define the appropriate publication for small farm building requirements.

Will Teron, Senior Structural Engineer at Tacoma Engineers, has been selected as a member of the Joint Task Group.  This selection is largely based on Tacoma Engineers commitment to engineering for the farm building industry over the past 25 years and its active involvement with the Canadian Farm Builders Association.  Tacoma Engineers is proud to be part of this group and looks forward to working with nationwide professionals in the drafting of new requirements for farm buildings which ensure a safe and secure environment while recognizing the unique needs/characteristic of the agricultural sector.

On October 16th, Tacoma entered 25 runners in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon in support of the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Run to End Poverty program. The results were impressive, as 23 racers completed the 5km run and two finished the half-marathon, many with personal best times and some within the top echelons of their respective categories. More importantly, Tacoma raised over $11,000 for EWB’s campaign, which brought the total for the Run to End Poverty program to over $49,000! We couldn’t have done it without the support of our family, friends and corporate sponsors. Thank you to everyone who supported us for making this event a huge success!

Ariss Valley Golf & Country Club hosted the 100 person golf tournament and dinner, with the goal of both reminiscing on 25 memorable years, while further growing the many long term relationships that have helped us reach this point. Despite wet weather and some mediocre golf skills the turnout was wonderful and resulted in good laughs and great fellowship. Click here to see some photos of the day.

Tacoma Engineers wants to take this time to thank all our clients for their support over the past 25 years. The growth of our company, our people and our community is a result of the great people we work with – our colleagues and clients. We appreciate the loyalty, guidance and feedback we’ve received from our clients. We will continue to cherish and build on it, to remain the engineering firm that our clients want to come to – because of the way they are treated, listened to, and looked after. Thank you!
